i loved getting this view into your mind.. i think it'll be so fun to look back at your fics knowing some of the process/thoughts that went into them. i think what you said about writing in general is really inspiring so i will come back to look at this again!
"writing a stylized version of an existing story that just tweaks the characters so that they’re recognizable as other people is… not a fic" i cannot speak for other people but this is why dcf is soooo difficult for me (despite the fact that it was like. my idea...), like the idea of an existing NARRATIVE that you're basing your work on deprives it of a major source of originality which is part of what holds a reader(/writer)'s interest. i think this also applies to ficmix too.
i also really resonated with "The nice thing about writing fic is that I have something to call my own, something I labored on and created for myself and not for a job or other obligation." and i think that's why i enjoy it so much as a hobby!!
